“There He Is, Mister…..” Explaining Haverhill High School’s Inexplicable Pageant

The Heartbeat of Haverhill  had many questions about Haverhill High School traditions as they pertain to the the last weeks that race toward graduation. Why is something called Senior Chapel? Does it have to do with church? Is The Night of Stars a talent show? What is Mister HHS all about?

THOH found out that The Night of Stars is in fact a talent show, but the talents are scholastic excellence, leadership and community mindedness. The Senior Chapel is still a mystery, but THOH has now experienced Mister HHS. And admittedly we are still at a loss to describe it or what the judging criteria are.

The best way to describe Mister HHS is through photographs.

It is wildly popular, nearly standing room only

It is about music

It is about dancing

And it is about some less categorizable stuff that triggers smiles, guffaws and an occasional wince.

But it’s also about dedication and friendship and support, and hard work and punting when things don’t go as planned

But is is a pageant after all, and someone has to win

The problem with describing Mister HHS, is that no matter what The Heartbeat of Haverhill shows you, it won’t ever be that again. Mister HHS is the culmination of the efforts of a unique group of high school students who will never come together again in exactly this same way. There is no long run, only an opening night that is also the closing night as the Haverhill High School Class of 2015 crowds more and more memories into fewer days of togetherness.

Whether the next stop is prom or Senior Chapel or Senior Banquet or just heading to the beach? Soak it all in kids and have – the time of your life.
