Things Will be Great When You’re Downtown….Photos of Haverhill on a Snowy Night

“Maybe you know some little places to go to where they never close –  Downtown.”   From the song Downtown performed by Petula Clark; a link to the song is at the end of this post

Many brave workers made it into their restaurants last night to serve the few who ventured out during the 4th snow storm of the last fortnight. The Heartbeat of Haverhill was surprised by an instanteous “go or no” invitation to ensure their efforts were not in vain.  THOH knowing the alternative was cooking after shoveling for an hour voted “Go”. and we left, my hair still soaked from the very snow that otherwise would have landed back in my shoveled path, a coat soaked clean through was left hanging out to dry and we were off.

That’s when we learned that despite the griping, the muscles tired from throwing snow higher and higher with each passing storm, and the absolute longing to see something sprout in a garden, or at least see where a garden might grow instead of a lump the size of a reclining elephant covered in snow, snow is still pretty.

Enjoy these photos shot Downtown in Haverhill February 18 2014 Special thanks to my husband, Jonathan Campbell, for dragging me out and then shooting some of the wonderful images for this slide show.

If you do watch the Petula Clark youtube video, notice how much the wrists were ‘twerked” instead of the butt! Such a commentary on life….BTW this is song I dedicate to my mother and it’s a favorite of hers (hope she reads this post). When we were little kids she always let us sing this with her but we only got the “downtown” part. Such a funny memory.

Nicely lit set of photos, Jon. Its always good to drag Alison away from her island every now and again. Love that little song. I remember fighting with my sisters about who was going to sing it in our family talent show, performed in the yard using the creaky wooden bulkhead as the stage. Ah, the memories.

Ann we had that same talent show experience..Once it was on the roof of our garage over the pony stall and we’re singing Downtown to the squirrels and crows…literally that was the only word we kidsngot to sing as we entertained ourselves.
