Good News from A Great City Haverhill, MA
Last week Haverhill Police and Firefighters participated in the National Night Out party at Swasey Field. National Night Out is part of the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the development and promotion of various crime prevention programs including neighborhood watch groups, law enforcement agencies, state and regional crime prevention associations, businesses, civic groups, and individuals, devoted to safer communities. http://www.natw.org/about-nno/
America’s Night Out Against Crime began in 1984 and Haverhill has participated in this program since almost the beginning. This year’s event was held at Swasey Field and fabulous weather and the promise of a good time brought out a record crowd. Estimates are that the crowd exceeded one thousand. We do know for a fact that the police served 800 hamburgers and 800 hot dogs, plus pop corn, to the ravenous crowd. One firefighter calculated that he personally lifted 500 children in and out of the onsite fire engine. The music spun by DJ Al Beckford had kids of all ages moving to the music.
Check out some of the photos from the event below (Click to enlarge) and mark your 2014 calendar with the first Tuesday in August so you can be first in line for the bounce house and the face painting and the burgers and dogs.
